Course Time! Week 3

Posted by Ultrapuff - 6 hours ago

We've got some more Course Time up in here!

Over the past week, we kept working on some more car-based animations. However, the most interesting thing from week 3 was our trip to another campus to have a go at some motion capture! A lot of people weren't keen to put on the suit to capture anything, but me and a few other classmates took the challenge and had a real blast with it! I thought that I was going to be really nervous in front of everybody, but it went surprisingly well! I had a lot of fun walking around and being generally a little goofy goober. According to the teachers, we were a lot better than last year's class in terms of making usable data for our own animations. A lot of the motions that we were told to do were walking, as the intent was to get stuff that would work well at a city interchange for our task. The process of getting the set ready was very interesting! The way that the various cameras got calibrated was a big pole with markers on it. It would be waved around the cameras and add more and more samples to the scene until it was good. Since the suits weren't anything fancy or had any electronics, our classmates helped us stick a bunch of markers onto the suits. I believe that 41 markers were needed for just one person. It was worth it, however! From what I could see, the capture was really accurate! Some of my classmates also got to show off their dance moves for a little bit of fun! Someone even was juggling a couple of hacky sacks! Other than that, it was pretty standard for the week. We just kept doing some car animation. The coming week, however, is when we start biped animation! I'm quite excited about that!

Also! I found some time during the week to join in on the Pride Collab! Check out my solo piece here and the full collab here!

That's it for this post! I'm going to try and find more time to work on my own projects. I will also be going to AVCon this year! I'll be sure to post about it in This Week. Stay Tuned!

Thank you and good-bye for today!
